Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Balasore is a main establishment of advanced education in Odisha. It is an undeniable Graduate and developing Post-Graduate College associated to F. M. College, Balasore. The College, at first called Baleswar College, appeared on sixth July 1944 when the Government of Odisha built up a Second Grade Arts College with 96 seats in the premises of the then Zilla School of Balasore. The Principal of the College turned into the ex-officio Inspector of the School. Both the establishments made them administer Body and one regulatory head.
In 1946 the College turned into a First Grade establishment and the Bachelor of Arts classes opened. Aside from pass subjects the College offered Honors in English, Economics and History. The College currently had its very own Governing body in spite of the fact that its Principal kept on being the Inspector of Schools.
In 1948 two additional Honors subjects Philosophy and Mathematics were presented. Around the same time Intermediate in Science was likewise presented and classes were held in a different square which was recently developed for the reason.
In 1949 the College was renamed Fakir Mohan College vide Government of Odisha Letter No 5787-E Dated 02.08.1949 after the incomparable Odia litterateur, Fakir Mohan Senapati who was conceived at Mallikashpur in the Balasore town.
In 1961 the Bachelor of Science opened. The year likewise observed the Zilla School move to its own structure at the Jail Road. Accordingly, the College was completely housed in the first school working to which important increases and alterations were made. Accordingly, so as to suit the developing number of understudies the Bhuyan Building Complex was obtained. The Commerce Department had been working from the structure till it was obliterated in 2018 so as to clear a path for another Commerce Block to come up.
The College developed from solidarity to quality from 1960s onwards regarding both new subjects presented and understudies enlisted. Science Honors was presented in the scholarly session 1665-66, Odia in 1970-71, Botany and Zoology in 1971-72, Commerce in 1975-76, Education in 1991-92. The Post-Graduate classes in Commerce began in 1979-80, Mathematics in 1985-86, Physics in 1988-89, Political Science in 1992-93, Odia in 1994-95, Botany, Hindi and Psychology in 2018-19. Thus, Honors in Computer Science and Bachelor of Business Administration in oneself financing mode have been running since 2000-2001. Essentially, 4-year Integrated Bachelor of Education in Self-Financing mode was running from 2015-16. It is since the 2014-15 scholarly session that the College has been giving one year Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management with an admission limit of 50 understudies under the UGC Scheme of Community College. Further, the College is the main Government College in Odisha which has been affirmed by the UGC to run the Bachelor of Vocation Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from 2018-19 with as much consumption limit.
