Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur marks another glorious year in its history. Many outstanding Indian artists have come from Kerala. Kerala's art institutions have played an important role in the lives of many of them. Among them, this organization also occupies a special place. More than a hundred years of existence have given this organization a unique feature in the history of art organizations in India. As a leading art College, we inspire young minds to work with the world and live on their own terms, as artists. This includes the systematic transmission of specialized skills that enable a person to earn a living. Our students learn the fundamentals of artistic practice here and develop themselves around the world. As a commercial industrial technical College, the institution began operations in 1910. At this time, art education was essentially industrial training aimed at producing skilled craftsmen and related professional work. During World War II, the College was renamed “Commercial College”. From 1943 to 1975, the organization was known as the Institute of Government Occupations. The fundamental transition from professional work to a more aesthetic "Fine Arts" orientation occurred when it was converted into the Government Institute of Fine Arts in 1975.
