The challenging path to earning a Doctorate
of Chemistry degree demands hours of laboratory work and classroom
lectures–and all of these render distance learning unfeasible. The traditional
educational setup ensures quality education for future research scientists.
If the fees related to accommodation and living expenses make you rethink
pursuing this career, worry not because almost all the institutions offer
scholarships to worthy students.
The Doctor of Chemistry (D. Chem) is a rare title awarded by some universities. The most popular degree is the “Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry (Ph.D. Chem.)”. The academic degree “Doctor of Science in Chemistry (D.Sci. Chem.)” is also another equivalent title.

Eligibility Criteria (Qualifying Exam)
Pass with 55% aggregate marks in the M.Sc.
or MS (with Chemistry) or equivalent, subject to the qualifying LPUNEST and
Interview;
(5% relaxation to the SC or ST or OBC
(non-creamy layer) or differently-abled students)
Admission
Criteria
A candidate will
be short-listed for an interview on the basis of his or her score in the entrance
examination LPUNEST (Ph.D.).
The final
selection for admission in Ph.D. will be based on the performance in
Entrance Test (70% weightage) and Interview (30% weightage) subject to the scoring
minimum marks in the Interview.
REQUIREMENT:
The requirements for a Ph.D. in chemistry
consist of a combination of the coursework, seminars, research proposals, and
original research. Each candidate will be required to pass three classes (12
credits) in the three different chemistry divisions (organic, inorganic,
physical, analytical and biochemistry), and pass the two classes (8 credits)
within their major area of research. A grade of B or better must be obtained in each course attempted. Courses are selected with the assistance of a
faculty adviser. Ph.D. students must submit and orally defend the dissertation
research proposal to their dissertation committee no later than the first
semester of their third year of the study.
Candidates select a research adviser at the
end of their first semester of study after rotations in several
laboratories. Intensive research generally begins in the spring of the first
year. The Ph.D. program culminates in the preparation of the research
dissertation and a final oral examination.
Program Mission:
The department’s mission is to provide quality education to graduate students while they pursue state-of-the-art
research in chemistry. The objective of the graduate program is to educate
and train candidates to become highly effective scientists by providing them
with the interdisciplinary tools, research skills and ethical and service
sensibilities needed to succeed in their future careers. This includes
offering a variety of rigorous graduate-level courses, maintaining
cutting-edge research programs within individual laboratories, and compliance
with the Code for the Professional Ethical Conduct espoused by the American
Chemical Society.
NOTE:- Students are requested to note that their application will not be considered for admission if the above certificates are not enclosed with their application.
