The beautiful and well-built Nabinchandra College, Badarpur that stands impressively in the heart of Badarpur town had its beginning in the late 1960s. The people of those years faced many a problem in sending their children for higher education to Karimganj or Silchar as there was no college between these two towns lying fifty-five kilometres apart. Distance, money, wastage of time and poor communication facilities were the chief hurdles which made them think about an alternative arrangement. The result was the unanimous decision of setting up a college at Badarpur. This noble idea soon acquired flesh and bones through the selfless and untiring efforts of the people of all walks of life in the form of a college in 1969. The sweat and blood of the then staff, students and the general public helped in laying a strong foundation and in nurturing the new born educational institution.As the college had no campus of its own, the classes of Arts faculty were run in a rented building in a plot very close to the present site. The college was christened “Nabinchandra College” in 1971 after the late father of Basanta Kumar Das, a major donor. It was shifted to the present site in 1974 and was brought under the deficit system of grants-in-aid rules of the Assam government the following year. Since then it never looked back, but always marched ahead, crossing many a hurdle on the road to progress, achieving side by side the physical development of the college building , the campus, and the academic growth of the educational institution.

Nabinchandra College offers facilities for cricket, football, volleyball, badminton,carrom,chess etc. The college has its own playground in front of the college building in which the annual sports are held. Many more facilities are being procured.
Book Bank
The College has started a Book-Bank from where needy students will be supplied with books.
Computer Laboratory
A computer laboratory in the college was opened during the session 2001-2002 for academic and administrative use.
College Magazine
To enable the students publish their creative writings, a college magazine is brought out annually. A sum of Rs 40/-(Rupees forty) only is collected from each student on this score. Departmental journals will be brought out to encourage creative/critical writings among the students.
Canteen
The college has canteen facility for refreshment of Students & Teachers.
Gymnasium
A Yoga and Gymnasium centre has been opened in the college in the year 2006 with a qualified instructor to promote physical and mental welbeing of the students. A student can use the services of the centre with a payment of Rs. 80.00 for one year. Students and employees willing to use the centre for Yoga and Gym training may contact the instructor.
Career Counselling & Placement Cell
The career counselling & placement cell headed by Debojyoti Dasgupta, Senior Lecturer, Department of Political Science will offer guidance regarding admission to various courses of studies and employment opportunities to the present students of this college, and others to the extent possible.
Prizes & Scholarships
Two cash prizes and certificates in the name and style of Late Mahmoda Begum Memorial Prizes are given to the highest mark holders in both H.S. and Degree (Hons.) examinations. Also a scholarship in the name and style of Doreen Scholarship has been launched in 2005-2006 academic session for the students of this college who secure two highest aggregate marks (in both general and female categories) in the H.S. examination every year in the following subjects : English, Bengali, Political Science and Economics.
Health Centre
A health centre has been set up with facilities like first-aid and periodic health check-up for the students and other members of the college community. Dr. Swapan Das, M.B.B.S., consultant physician, has signed a MOU with the college authorities to provide support to the centre.
