The K. R. College of Arts & Science was established by the benevolent philanthropist Thiru K. Ramasamy, the Chairman of National Educational and Charitable Trust, Kovilpatti. This trust was established in 1984-1985 under the Chairmanship of Thiru K. Ramasamy. The first educational institution originated from the trust was National Engineering College. The Chairman decided to start a self-financing Arts & Science College in the style and name of K. R. College of Arts & Science (Co-Education). The College is being constructed in the land of 10 acres and 5.5 cents in Kovilpatti on the National High ways NH7 at a distance of about 4KM from Kovilpatti town, amidst a good surroundings in the rural area. The aim of this institution is to impart higher education to economically poor students in the vicinity of Kovilpatti. The Government of Tamil Nadu has granted permission to start this Co-Educational institution in the year 1997-1998 vide its Order No. MS. 315 dated 13.06.1997. The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli has granted affiliation to this college vide its Letter No. MSU/ CD/ Fresh-Aff/ 97-98 dated 22-08-1997.

The General Library which caters to the academic needs of the students and teachers works between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on all working days and also between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm on holidays (except state holidays).
DST-FIST LAB
The Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, under the scheme "Fund for Improvement of S & T Infrastructure in Higher Educational Institutions" (DST-FIST) sanctioned Rs. 80 Lakhs in the year 2016 at Level '0' [vide file no. KR College of Arts and Science(SR/FST/College322/2016(C)]. The scheme is intended to improve the Teaching and Research facilities through purchase of equipment, books, e-learning and networking facilities, and maintenance of equipment.We procured sophisticated equipment such as Solid UV-VisSpectrophotometer, ATR - FT-IR Spectrophotometer, Electrochemical Workstation, Rotary Evaporator, and electrical characterization facility. These facilities are available at free of cost to students, research scholars and faculty members of KR College of Arts and Science. Also the nearby Colleges and Universities are availing this facility at nominal cost. Provisions are made for the external users to book their slots throughI-STEM portal.
Physical Education
The College is equipped with a large playground with facilities to play cricket, volleyball, basketball, ball badminton, tennis, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Football and etc., and also a well laid out standard 400 meter track. Provision for playing indoor games like table tennis, carom, Chess is also made. Intramural matches are conducted to encourage and sharpen the skills of the students.
Procedures & Policies
For the regular maintenance of the infrastructure facilities and equipments of the college, campus workshops, lathes and work-sheds, an electrician is appointed by the management to take care of all electrical equipments, generators, high tension system etc. All instruments are under insurance coverage. Two qualified engineers are appointed by the management for maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure facilities and equipment of the college. Policy for Physical, Academic and Support facilities: Classrooms: There are enough classrooms for regular classes with spacious Central Library, administrative rooms as per the university affiliation norms. Internal cleaning of the college buildings, cleaning of dining halls, rest rooms and common areas are taken care of by the staff appointed for it .

This cell aims at providing guidance and counseling to the students regarding various traditional and job oriented courses, different kinds of competitive examinations, identifying job opportunities in the current market trend and employability in public and private sectors.The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job opportunities for Under Graduates and Post Graduates passing out from the college by keeping in touch with reputed firms and industrial establishments. The Placement Cell operates round the year to facilitate contacts between employer and graduates. Free coaching for Banking Service Recruitment examination and IAS exams are being conducted regularly. Materials for competitive exams and model questions with answers are provided.
