City College was started by Ananda Mohan Bose and the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj in 1881. In 1961, the college was trifurcated into three separate colleges–Rammohan College (morning college), City College (day college) and Ananda Mohan College (evening college). Till 2017, the college used to be administered by the Brahmo Samaj Education Society, a society constituted by the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj. Since then, it became a grant-in-aid college under the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal no longer administered by the Brahmo Samaj Education Society.One of the most illustrious sons of India, Ananda Mohan Bose was born in Jaisiddhi, a remote village in the Mymansingh district of undivided Bengal (now in Bangladesh) on 23 September 1847 to Padmalochan Bose and Umakishori Devi. Educated at Hardinge School and then in Maymansingh Zilla School, Ananda Mohan stood ninth in the matriculation examination when he was only 15. He went on to study at Presidency College and stood first both in the BA and MA examinations and was also awarded the prestigious Premchand Roychand scholarship, instituted by the Parsi businessman at the University of Calcutta.

Computer Laboratory
Considering today's need for computerization, our College is proud to have all the infrastructure facilities in certain faculties such as Commerce, Geography and Mathematics. These departments have their own computer laboratories with modern equipment and necessary software (Microsoft Office, Mathematica, Matlab, Latex, C++ software, etc.) to meet the needs of students. In addition, the library also has an e resource center, which provides access to e resources among other things.
Library
Shahid Bhagat Singh College has a fully computerized barcode library. The library has a computer lending system with barcodes. We have two computers dedicated to OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) book searches. This collection is enriched by his over 86,796 books on various research fields. The library also subscribes to over 100 of his periodicals in various fields (national and international, specifically Harvard Business Review, The Economist, etc.). The library also has a small computer lab for accessing electronic resources subscribed to by the College of Delhi through the College's intranet and the Internet. The Library also holds orientation programs from time to time and provides orientation in electronic resources for accessing bibliographic databases and full text databases available through the College's intranet and the INFLIBNET Consortium and Information Literacy Program. Students are encouraged to inquire about various library services with Dr. Puja Anand Gulati, Librarian.
Canteen
The College campus has a spacious and well ventilated canteen building with ample seating, separate from the academic blocks. We provide students and faculty with a variety of snacks, food, tea, coffee, and other beverages at low prices. The canteen committee monitors food quality, care and hygiene. A proposal to renovate the cafeteria was recently approved by the Building Committee and Board of Directors.
Seminar Rooms
The College has two seminar rooms equipped with state of the art equipment. The College organizes seminars, workshops and lectures with the active participation of students and teachers. Prominent scientists and experts from academic and business organizations are invited to interact with students and give lectures.
