Eligibility
- Candidate should have a Master's degree with at least 55% marks or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with equivalent grade.
- From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
- A candidate who have completed M.Phil. course work with at least 55 % marks. From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
Duration of Research
- For PG Degree Holders: Full Time (Minimum 3 years and maximum 5 years) and Part TIme (Minimum 4 years and maximum 6 years)
- For M.Phil Degree Holders: Full Time (Minimum 2 years and maximum 4 years) and Part TIme (Minimum 3 years and maximum 5 years)
Course of Study
- Course I: Research Methodology (Research Methods of the concerned discipline)
- Course II: Research Trends in the concerned discipline / Advances in the concerned discipline
- Course III: Special Paper (Pertaining to the area of specialization chosen by the candidate under a guide)
Procedure for Admission
- The candidate will get admission by a two-stage process through an entrance test, called Common Eligibility Test (CET), and an interview. The test will be conducted at the following centers: Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Ooty, and Pollachi/Udumalpet.
- A candidate who has a Master’s Degree shall be eligible to appear for CET. However, the candidates who qualify in UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET /UGC-NET (including JRF) / SET / GATE are exempted from appearing for CET. Candidates who have M.Phil. Degree or scientists working in DRDO/Faculty of Air Force Administrative College are also exempted from appearing for CET.
Common Eligibility Test
- Common Eligibility Test shall be of objective type with 50 multiple-choice questions.
- No negative marks for wrong answers.
- Each question carries 0.7 marks.
- Each question has four options.
- The maximum marks shall be 35 (50 x 0.7 = 35 marks).
- Passing marks will be 10 out of 35.
Criteria for Selection
- PG qualifying examination marks shall be converted to 50.
- Candidate has to secure 25 marks out of 50 marks in the qualifying degree.
- In both CET and interview candidates have to secure 25 marks out of 50 marks.
- Eligibility Requirement for Admission: 50 out of 100 marks
Reservation Criteria

About University
The Bharathiar University was built up by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the Year 1982, under the Bharathiar University Act I of 1981 (Tamil Nadu University Act I of 1982). The University was perceived by the U.G.C with the end goal of the honor of awards, in 1985. The University is an individual from the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. It is of an affiliating type, with locale over the income region of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, and Erode. It has at present 127 Affiliated Colleges including 93 Arts and Science Colleges, 1 Air Force Administrative College, 12 Institutions of Information Science and Management, and 30 Research Institutions.
The University is arranged at the foot of the Maruthamalai Hills around 12 km from the city of Coimbatore, in a rambling grounds of around 1000 sections of land. The environment is very tranquil and is perfect for scholarly interests. The grounds have various compositionally structured structures, which house the different Teaching and Research Departments, the Library, the Internet Center, the Administrative Offices, the Hostels, and the Canteen. The University has 13 schools and 37 Research Departments on Campus, devoted to instructing and research, which incorporate the Bharathiar School of Management and Entrepreneur Development and the School of Distance Education. All the Departments/Schools have kept an eye on by profoundly qualified and experienced employees. The University follows Choice Based Credit System and semester example of guidance for all the Postgraduate courses. Every semester is having at least ninety working days.
