Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Government Polytechnic was established in the year 1984 and Second Government Polytechnic was established in the year 1989 in the same campus has been renamed as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology on 16th April 2010. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology offers Degree, Diploma in Engineering apart from various maritime programmes. The institute also offers various non-formal courses in the campus as well as through its extension centre spread over different islands of A & N group of Islands. The institute was one of the first technical institute in the country to get ISO 9000 accreditation way back in 1999, which was subsequently upgraded to 9001:2008 standards. The institute also obtained ISO 14000 accreditation. All the courses which are being offered for more than four years have been accredited by NBA.

Hostel

The campus consists of Several well built hostel blocks,both for girls and boys with capacity of many students.Each hostel consists of a separate mess,administrative office,warden quarter.In addition to well furnished rooms,the hostel is complete with facilities like free hi speed Wi-Fi connection,gymnasium,medical center and other amenities for shopping,sports,recreation and entertainment. A shopping complex,consisting of about some shops,is constructed in the vicinity of the hostel blocks and caters to the daily needs of the students like groceries,stationery,laundry and grooming.

Library

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Government Polytechnic library facility is fully air-conditioned and has a vast collection of textbooks,reference books and other resources.The library is installed with CCTV cameras for security purposes.All students and faculty members can access the library facility during their free time after their classroom lectures.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Government Polytechnic provides free internet facilities to the students and faculty members.The college is fully wi-fi-enabled.

Auditorium

Dr. B. R.
