COMMERCIAL LAW
Corporate and Commercial Law is the study
of all the regulations, policies, and legal codes that affect commercial
entities and transactions. It includes all the rules that have to do with starting, managing and closing a business, and also on how to create mergers
and other types of changes in how a company is run. So, Business Law also
examines the interactions between enterprises and the governments,
customers, competitors, and other companies. It is also called business law.
Business Law is also referred to as Commercial
Law, Mercantile Law, Law and Business, or Legal Studies in Law. It is an
interdisciplinary academic degree, which overlaps with other areas, like
Tax Law, Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Sales, and Bankruptcy.
The main goal of Business Law is to ensure
that the marketplace remains fair and everyone has equal opportunity to
succeed. Both companies and customers need to respect the law and can go to
court if someone limits or interferes with their rights.
A typical Business Law curriculum includes
classes in Contract and Tort Law, EU Rights, Contemporary Issues in
Business, Business and Financial Information, and Legal Systems, Legal Research
and Writing, Immigration Law, Cyberlaw, Business Ethics, etc.
Business Law graduates can become successful
business lawyers’, paralegals, and financial analysts, risk analysts, loan
officers, or corporate counselors.
Modules for the Commercial and Corporate
Law LLM deal with the global and regional regulation of international
trade, structuring and managing international business transactions, and the
economic foundations of the trade and corporate law. Please note that not all
modules will be available in any of one year.
You will be offered a varied selection of the
taught modules from which you can choose, enabling you to gear your
qualification to set you on your desired career trajectory. You do not have to
choose your modules until you have had the opportunity to learn about them in greater detail during your comprehensive inductions period.
You will have voluntary access to an
excellent series of lectures in Critical Thinking and Writing in Law to
help you to improve your writing and research in law skills.

Core modules
Legal Research and Writing Skills
This module introduces candidates to the
basic skills of legal research and legal writing, both essays and problem-solving. The module includes lectures by the academic staff, library staff, and
online specialists, hands-on workshops and structured seminars. The modules
also cover referencing and the use of unfair means. Students are given
formative feedback on essays. Candidates are introduced to the skills necessary
to give effective oral presentations. Time will also be given to self-reflect
on future employment opportunities.
Dissertation (LLM in Law)
Candidates must complete a 10,000-12,000
word dissertation on the legal topic of their choice, subject to approval by
the Head of the School or her or his delegate. The approval will include
consideration of whether the dissertation is suitable for the candidates to graduate from one of the specialized
pathways. To this end the student will be asked to nominate on the
paperwork their interest in graduating with one of the specialized pathways.
The dissertation gives the candidate the opportunity to explore an area of
their interest in some depth. To achieve the Masters's standard the student is
required to demonstrate an up-to-date critical analysis of the topic chosen for
the discussions.

The fee listed is for the advertised mode
of the study. If you’re studying for an alternative qualification or via the
different mode of study (e.g. full-time, part-time) then the fee could be
different. Due to inflations, the fee for Home students could also increase
after your first year of the study.
