Master of Philosophy in Food Technology is a minimum 1 or maximum 2 years advanced postgraduate research degree and generally awarded to graduate candidates after going through several rigorous years of original research. In the degree program applicant learn about the essentials needed in food production and its processing, which is the 5th largest industry in the world. Mainly the course syllabus is covered through classroom study wherein subjects which deals with techniques used for cleaning food such as spray drying, juice concentrates, a broader study of preservatives and colorants, etc. The research degree course consists of project work as applied to the course along with generating a thesis on the end of the program, the topic of which will be suggested by the faculty of the respective colleges. A degree holder who have M.Phil degree can get the job of a Quality Assurance Manager, Production Manager, Laboratory Supervisor, Food Packaging Manager or as a technician in food processing and packaging manufacturing or even as a research associate in premier institutes, universities and research and development units. In India, there are a some universities and colleges offering the M.Phil. degree, and typically the duration of the program is two years long. A candidates may take the courses on a part-time or full-time basis.
