Master of Philosophy in I.C. Engines is a minimum 1 or maximum 2 years advanced postgraduate research degree and generally awarded to graduate candidates after going through several rigorous years of original research. The degree course is designed to provide study about Good understanding of all the main components of IC engines, Actuator indicator diagrams & their importance, Additional concepts like supercharging, lubrication, governing. The main purpose of this course is to provide the applicants an introduction to reciprocating internal combustion engines with emphasis on marine and stationary applications. The degree course provide education the first principles of how the design and operation of internal combustion engines affect their performance, efficiency, fuel requirements, and environmental impact. In the degree course applicants investigate the design features and operating characteristics of various types of internal combustion engines: diesel, spark-ignition, stratified-charge, and mixed-cycle engines. The course syllabus involves various topics such as fluid flow, thermodynamics, combustion, heat transfer and friction phenomena, and fuel properties, with reference to engine power, efficiency, and emissions. It mainly centered on explaining engine performance in terms of power, energy utilization and exhaust emissions.
