Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) is a branch of engineering that focuses on the design, development, and maintenance of communication systems and electronic equipment.
Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) course is a branch of engineering that covers the study, design, development, and application of electrical circuits, electronics, and communication systems. ECE engineers work on a wide range of products, from consumer electronics to telecommunications equipment, medical devices, and aerospace systems. The curriculum is no longer limited to traditional subjects. To equip students with the skills needed for the future, universities are incorporating courses on emerging areas like the Internet of Things (IoT).

There are various entrance exams for ETE programs, such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, GATE, etc.
Admission to ETE programs is usually based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam and their academic record.
Students who have passed their 10+2 or equivalent level examinations with a minimum of 55% marks (45% to 50% for reserved category students) can make application in colleges offering the course.
Majority of the Universities/Colleges conduct a common entrance test for admission into B.E courses (like LUPNEST) or take admissions through commonly held entrance exam like JEE Main, UPSEE. Hence students would have to make an application for such exams.
Students have to qualify these exams (for which they should be eligible to appear) in order to get admission in the course.
After the conduct of the test, a merit list of finally qualified candidates is prepared and candidates are invited for admission process by the respective university or college.
After admission process final allotment of seats to the candidate takes place and the candidate is asked to deposit the fee for the course and register for the respective academic year.
Candidates should have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Additionally, they need to clear the entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programs.
He/She shall not be having any backlog in any of the subject/Subjects at 10+2 or equivalent level that is yet to be cleared at the time of taking admissions.
Apart from the above-mentioned eligibility criteria’s various colleges and institutes may have their own additional criteria’s which the students would have to satisfy in order to take admission.
In case of reserved category students, they would have to present their reservation certificates issued by the competent authorities in order to avail the benefits applicable to them.
Most of the Institutes give admissions through Common Entrance Test (CET). To get admissions in these institutes candidates would have to qualify the respective entrance exam by securing minimum qualifying marks.
The duration of an undergraduate program in ETE is usually 4 years, while a postgraduate program takes 2 years to complete.
The selection criteria for ETE programs are usually based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam and their academic record.
Candidates are typically required to have completed their secondary education (10th grade or equivalent) from a recognized educational board. Some institutions may also require candidates to have studied specific subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in their secondary education.
Institutions may have a minimum marks requirement for admission. Candidates must have obtained a certain percentage or grade point average (GPA) in their secondary education to be eligible for admission.
Merit-based selection involves evaluating candidates based on their academic performance and achievements. Candidates with higher marks or grades in secondary education may have an advantage in the selection process.
Candidates can apply for ETE programs online through the respective college/university website or through the common application portals.
Collect all necessary documents required for the application. These may include:
Academic transcripts and certificates from secondary education
Proof of identity (such as a copy of your passport or ID card)
Passport-sized photographs
Any other documents specified by the institution (e.g., entrance exam scores, letters of recommendation)
The application form for ETE programs is usually available online on the respective college/university website or through common application portals.
The application process involves filling up the application form, uploading necessary documents, paying the application fee, and submitting the form.
The fee for ETE programs varies from institution to institution. However, it is usually in the range of INR 1-2 lakhs per year for undergraduate programs and INR 1-3 lakhs per year for postgraduate programs.
The syllabus for ETE programs usually includes subjects like Analog And Digital Electronics, Communication Systems, Network Theory, Control Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, Signal Processing, etc.
