Institute of Wood Science and Technology - IWST

The Government of Mysore had set up a Forest Research Laboratory (FRL) at Bangalore in 1938. In the underlying years, work was done mostly on properties and employments of various timber species, basic oils, other non-wood woodland items and assurance of wood and trees from nuisances and sicknesses. In 1956, this lab was sorted out as a local focal point of Forest Research Institute and Colleges, Dehra Dun. In 1977, Sandal Research Center was set up to attempt investigate on wide-extending parts of hereditary qualities, silviculture and the board of shoe, a significant tree very much dispersed all over Southern India. In 1977, the marine focuses of Wood Preservation Branch, Forest Research Institutes and Colleges, Dehra Dun working at Vishakhapatnam, Madras, Goa and Kochi were moved to Forest Research Laboratory, Bangalore. 

In 1988, ranger service explore in India was rearranged with setting up of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and the Forest Research Laboratory was redesigned and named as Institute of Wood Science and Technology (IWST) blending Sandal Research Center and Minor Forest Products Unit working in a similar grounds, with it. The Institute is commanded to lead explore on wood science and innovation as a national goal and centers its exploration issues to significant ranger service research needs of the States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Goa at a territorial level.
