Kashmir Government Polytechnic appeared in the year 1958 and was incidentally working in the military quarters of Naseem Bagh, Kashmir University grounds, at first preparing in three orders viz. Common, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In the year 1962, the foundation was moved to the present grounds at Gogjibagh.
