Government College for Women-Vazhuthacaud - GCFW

The Govt. School for Women, Thiruvananthapuram is one of the main instructive establishments in Kerala. It was begun as the Sircar Girl's School, in 1864 by the Royal group of Travancore .The Travancore Royal Family is eminent for ground breaking, dynamic arrangements and edified methods for its individuals. Strengthening and welfare of ladies were among their prime concerns. The Royal family was very much aware that these objectives could be accomplished uniquely through teaching the ladies people. This prompted the foundation of an instructive organization for young ladies – the Sircar Girl's School, in 1864. This was during the rule of Aayilyam Thirunal (1860-1880).

In 1897 during the rule of Sree Moolam Thirunal (1885–1924), this foundation was redesigned as a second grade school and re-assigned as The Maharaja's College for Girls and subsidiary to the Madras University. It was raised to the status of a first grade school and was renamed as H.H. The Maharaja's College for Women in 1920. In 1923 the College was moved to its present area. In 1937, during the rule of Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma (1931–1949), the University of Travancore was established and the College was partnered to this college. At the point when the University of Travancore was established in 1937 the Women's College was one of the initial seven schools to be partnered to it. In 1957, a year after the establishing of the State of Kerala, when the University of Kerala was established, the school was partnered to it.

The Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram, has, for over a hundred years, been one of the main instructive establishments in Kerala and furthermore a spearheading foundation in the field of advanced education of ladies.
